Piercing FAQ

    • WASH your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason.

    • SALINE rinse twice per day during healing. For certain placements it may be easier to apply using clean gauze saturated with saline solution. A brief rinse afterward will remove any residue.

    • If your piercer suggests using soap, gently lather around the piercing and rinse as needed. Avoid using harsh soaps, or soaps with dyes, fragrances, or triclosan.

    • RINSE thoroughly to remove all traces of the soap from the piercing. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry through the piercing.

    • DRY by gently patting with clean, disposable paper products because cloth towels can harbor bacteria and snag on jewelry, causing injury.

We recommend repeating this process for 6 - 8 weeks.

    • It is essential to downsize your jewelry after the healing process is completed. We typically recommend downsizing at the 6 - 8 week point, but this recommendation may vary depending on the progress of the piercing. This will prevent most common issues such as migration, irritation & the formation of sebaceous cysts.

** Aftercare is an evolving conversation in the progression of body piercing. Aftercare needs can differ from one region and climate to another and not all products are widely available. Discuss your specific needs with your body piercer.**

  • We recommend using Steri-Wash.

Steri-Wash is a sterile saline solution that we carry in the shop to purchase. We do not recommend mixing your own sea salt solution as this will commonly result in the product being far too salty and strong, which can over dry the piercing and interfere with healing.

Do not use contact solution, eye drops or other saline products.

  • We are gradually transitioning our jewelry stock to an entirely titanium & 14K gold collection. This enables us to provide jewelry for everyone, regardless of metal allergies.

We are proud to carry brands like Divinity Metals, Buddha Jewelry, Junipurr Jewelry, NeoMetal, & Peoples Jewelry that offer industry leading, high quality pieces.

If you are curious about our ever-growing stock, feel free to give the shop a call and speak to a piercer.

    • Avoid cleaning with alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, or any harsh products, as these can damage healthy cells. Also avoid ointments as they prevent necessary air circulation.

    • Avoid over-cleaning. This can delay your healing and irritate your piercing.

    • Avoid submerging the piercing in unhygienic bodies of water such as lakes, pools, hot tubs, etc. Or, protect your piercing using a waterproof wound sealant bandage. These are available at most drugstores and work best for nipple, navel, and surface piercing placements.

    • Avoid all beauty and personal care products on or around the piercing including cosmetics, lotions, and sprays, etc.

    • Avoid rotating your new piercing.

    • Be mindful of what fabrics are coming into contact with your healing piercing. You will want to avoid fabrics that come in contact with any household pets or loose knit fabrics that may catch your piercing.

    • Avoid sleeping directly on a healing cartilage piercing as this can cause irritation, even causing shifts in the piercing’s angle. Placing a travel pillow, on top of your pillow, and then placing your ear in the opening can be helpful to avoid this.

    • Initially: some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising.

    • During healing: some discoloration, itching, secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) that will form some crust on the jewelry.

    • A piercing may seem healed before the healing process is complete. This is because tissue heals from the outside in, and although it feels fine, the interior remains fragile. Be patient, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.

    • Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, keep jewelry in—do not leave it empty.

If your jewelry comes out, it is important to take steps to put it back in as soon as possible. Timing is a very large factor in ensuring your piercing does not close.

Prior to attempting to put your jewelry back in, we advise that you utilize a product such as Aquaphor or A&D to lightly lubricate the jewelry. This will allow the jewelry to pass through the piercing hole with more ease. Do not force the jewelry through if you experience resistance. If you attempt to put your piercing in and it seems to feel “stuck” halfway through, do not continue to attempt to put it in. In this instance, seek out assistance from your piercer.

  • Yes!

There are a variety of metal options that are safe to pierce with if you are susceptible to metal allergies. This would include titanium or 14K gold.

  • For Ear Piercings :

    • Use the t-shirt trick: Dress your pillow in a large, clean t-shirt and turn it nightly; one clean t-shirt provides four clean surfaces for sleeping.

    • Maintain cleanliness of telephones, headphones, eyeglasses, helmets, hats, and anything that contacts the pierced area.

    • Placing a travel pillow, on top of your pillow, and then placing your ear in the opening can prevent irritation & migration issues related to sleeping directly on a healing piercing.

    • Downsizing your jewelry after the required healing time is essential. This will prevent most common issues such as migration, irritation & the formation of sebaceous cysts.

    For Nipple Piercings :

    • The support of a tight cotton shirt or sports bra may provide protection and feel comfortable, especially for sleeping.
